AT: Let's Finish This! by DancingDragoness AT: Let's Finish This! by DancingDragoness
My part of the art trade with :iconmani-hime: The picture is of Dragon Naoki (from DDR) and Dragon Loki (aka Demon Naoki that :iconmani-hime: made up) fighting. Oh my god! Did this take a long time... I am so very sorry about that. I worked really hard on this one. As for the shading and lighting, I'm rather pleased. Gaussian Blur is now my best friend. I also found out a new way to do the flames. I did try to make them look realistic, but I got annoyed and stuck with what I call "fantasy flames". As for anatomy... yeah I'm still practicing and I'm am certain that I screwed it up, but it's my best job so far ^^. The eyes need work. I suck at eyes... and hair as well. I definitely need to practice hair. Now for the poses.... yeah this is the first time I've ever really tried to depict fighting so the poses aren't that good. Sorry about that... I tried my best though. If you are wondering why Loki looks less human, it's because of the fact that he's evil and demonic. Naoki is a good person and therefore appears more human. Loki uses more magic attacks while Naoki uses more physical attacks. I also want to say that this is my first deviation done using my new tablet!

Made using: Pencil and paper, GIMP 2.8.2, Wacom Bamboo Create Pen and Touch Tablet, and a little bit of the laptop track pad.

This is by far one of your best pieces in my opinion. I see definite positives like how the direction of the light coming of the sources are correctly placed, and anatomy is also well done. I can definitely tell you spent a lot of time on this, seeing all of the details you put into the fire and hair. The way you made apparent motion in this piece by making the glow move in the opposite direction of the characters, this really helps bring a sense of a dynamic capture.

Now on to some things that could be improved.
There isn't that much as far as I can tell, but one thing that jumped out at me is simply that the glow coming off the eyes could be softened a bit more. Right now it seems a bit harsh. And just paying attention to basic anatomy rules (which you already are quite good at) as in thicker belly area because of the ribcage and strong wing shoulder muscles where the wing joins the rest of the body.

Other than those few things, this is an awesome work of art. It's a excellent example of movement in composition as well as shading technique. Very nice vision that was executed properly, and I've not seen something like this on dA before, so originality gets high points. As for impact, choosing to depict the moment before a collision of two characters is a great way to grab someones attention, so high points there as well.
SO to prevent this critique from dragging on forever, GREAT WORK DANCING DRAGONESS! hope that this critique proves helpful :3

Since you wanted me to do a critique on this, I'm going to.
To start things off, I really like this drawing you made! :D It's amazing, it really is! As I said on the comment, I think you're improving with your anatomy and shading! <3 I also think you did a great job on the lighting and fire.

Now with the cons. Dragon NAOKI's arm that is not bent looks a little big to me, I suggest that you make it a little thinner, but it looks good.
I also think you should soften the glowing on the eyes, like the other person that critiqued stated.

Anyways, I love this drawing you made for your part of the art trade! Sorry if I was mean on the cons, I'm just trying to give you advice to improve in some parts ^^

Thank you!!:icondragonglomp: I am becoming very much used to the tablet. The lines are so much smoother.

You're welcome!
That's quite interesting, usually when I try to make freehand lines with my tablet it looks very wobbly. It's why a lot of my earlier art was drawn only using straight lines with the shift key on GIMP.

This picture was originally two different sketches put together on GIMP. I traced the lines to the best of my ability. A lot of time was spent drawing and erasing to make the lines smoother.
