Description

My part of the art trade with :iconmani-hime: The picture is of Dragon Naoki (from DDR) and Dragon Loki (aka Demon Naoki that :iconmani-hime: made up) fighting. Oh my god! Did this take a long time... I am so very sorry about that. I worked really hard on this one. As for the shading and lighting, I'm rather pleased. Gaussian Blur is now my best friend. I also found out a new way to do the flames. I did try to make them look realistic, but I got annoyed and stuck with what I call "fantasy flames". As for anatomy... yeah I'm still practicing and I'm am certain that I screwed it up, but it's my best job so far ^^. The eyes need work. I suck at eyes... and hair as well. I definitely need to practice hair. Now for the poses.... yeah this is the first time I've ever really tried to depict fighting so the poses aren't that good. Sorry about that... I tried my best though. If you are wondering why Loki looks less human, it's because of the fact that he's evil and demonic. Naoki is a good person and therefore appears more human. Loki uses more magic attacks while Naoki uses more physical attacks. I also want to say that this is my first deviation done using my new tablet!

Made using: Pencil and paper, GIMP 2.8.2, Wacom Bamboo Create Pen and Touch Tablet, and a little bit of the laptop track pad.

Hello here! This is quite nice piece you have here! It definitely matches the title! This is very unique and different from what I've seen so far! >w<

Well I'm here to give you tips to improve your art for the future!
Lets start with the things you did well ^^

First of all, I really liked the creativity put into this and the contrasting colours make the dragons really stand out! Also how you used the blur *w* truly magnificent.

I also liked some of the shading, it makes the fire look very lively, as if its actually glowing *p*

Lastly I like how all the lines have colour, it's as if they were real dragons!!

Now here's some things you might want to remember for the future hon~

The image looks still, it doesn't look like its really moving, I feel like the lines are a bit stiff and that there isn't much movement in the picture.

Also the shading, since you kind of made this an action scene, the shading doesn't have much dynamics, the dragons look flat also Especially around the black dragon's claws, they look very rounded, almost like they have not knuckles.

In short the dragons look flat, I think you could have worked on the shading more, and making it dynamic, if you know what I mean,

The fire, well you could use some improvement in that area too. The fire has very nice coloration but it doesn't look much like a fire.. Maybe if you looked at photo references on fire, that could help.

Fire is more wispy and there is transparency in some areas of fire too, its not all opaque. The fire looks stiff also, it doesn't look very flexible, also with that much movement in this picture, fire tends to trail and spread out sort of thing. The picture doesn't seem to flow...

The hair looks flat and stiff too.. There isn't much shading to really make the hair look like hair. In the hair, fire and dragon itself, and the background, there doesn't seem to be any texture. The eyes look flat because there is no highlights or depth.

Lastly the background. I like how you made the background simple so that the dragons stand out but even small things like the background can make the picture stand out.

Basically you should work on Technique: the picture lacks dynamics in shading and in colour(depth/tone/highlights/texture), it lacks movement and action(it looks stiff/non flexible) and some small things like the fire and the background.

TTwTT Sorry if this sounds really Flamey, I don't mean to be rude.. Anyways keep up the good work!! Keep working on those techniques! You're a great artisit!
